Hunter & Sons
The firm
Hunter & Sons is a technical consulting practice in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, working with enterprises in pharma, life sciences and beyond since 2017. We turn business questions into data systems that answer them, and answers into decisions a board can stand behind. The practice: data governance, master data management, data quality. Where a data process needs judgment at volume, we put a model to work within set limits: the smallest model that does the work, held to a specification and traced at every step. A person decides.
Three disruptions, already underway
Each one changes who can act, and at what cost.
- Intelligence is a commodity. Capable models are cheap and everywhere, and what took a trained team now takes a model and a machine. What fails is how they are put to work.
- Energy is repricing. In the short run, a surge in demand from computing is pushing power prices up. In the long run, new supply keeps beating the forecasts.
- Intelligence is getting denser. More capability now fits in a smaller machine on less power, so it moves to the edge, where the work is done. Control of the data and the models becomes a matter of safety.
Quarry
Quarry is a knowledge graph and the layer that holds a language model to it. The graph keeps the facts you already own, each tied to a public identifier anyone can look up. The layer makes the model answer from that graph: deterministic where it matters, traced everywhere, reproducible on hardware you control. The models that touch your data run on your hardware; no step that reads a document or queries the graph calls a cloud model.
Every organization keeps its data in its own way, so we fit Quarry to yours: your systems, your records and your rules. We build it with your people and deploy it where your data already lives. The result is a decision system built around your business.
The controls
The model is machinery; the interesting part is what constrains it. A question goes into separate sandboxes, each with its own orchestrator and workers. Nothing leaves a sandbox except through a gate where a fixed rule decides. In the knowledge graph, each worker reaches as far as its permission allows: one may walk a path, another touch a single entry. The answer is traced to its source, and a person decides.
